Tuesday, 1/30/24:
Yesterday morning, Nicki Chopski, Health Professions Bureau Chief at the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing introduced RS 30827, which would bring regulation of licensed midwives under the auspices of the Board of Nursing. The Midwifery Practice Act carried a sunset clause of July of 2024, so they want to use the opportunity to consolidate the midwifery board under the existing Board of Nursing.
The new board would consist of five registered nurses, two practical nurses, two advanced registered nurses, two licensed midwives, and one layperson from the healthcare field.
Chopski said that the midwifery board discussed the change in four open public meetings and have not heard of any major concerns.
RS 30827 was approved and printed as H437.
