Washington, D.C.—In addition to delivering individual tax relief for the vast majority of Americans, the Working Families Tax Cuts are making raising a family more affordable for new and future parents. The law strengthens policies that support adoption and child care, while expanding opportunities for children to access a quality education and begin saving for their futures.
“The family is one of our most important institutions, and America is stronger when parents have greater freedom and flexibility to provide for their children,” said U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho). “By strengthening tax benefits for child care, adoption, school choice and paid family leave, the Working Families Tax Cuts are helping Idaho families keep more of what they earn and better afford the costs of raising a family.”
Key wins:
- Permanently increases the Child Tax Credit claimed by tens of millions of households
- Makes the Adoption Tax Credit partially refundable up to $5,000
- Permanently expands the Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) Tax Credit, incentivizing employers to give new parents paid time off work
- Permanently expands the Employer-Provided Child Care Credit and bolsters the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit and the Dependent Care Assistance Program
- Creates a new Education Freedom Tax Credit to make school choice programs more affordable
- Creates Trump Accounts, helping children establish financial security
What they are saying:
“Finances shouldn’t get in the way of finding suitable families for kids in need. What’s more, a refundable adoption tax credit means families will have resources to draw on for critical post-adoption services, like counseling, which helps ensure adoptees thrive for the long-haul.” – National Council for Adoption President and CEO Ryan Hanlon
“These efforts produced measurable progress for working families. The enacted tax package strengthened the tax code to increase financial support for over 50 million families and helped position more businesses to provide paid leave and child care benefits.” – Bipartisan Policy Center
