Boise, Idaho – Governor Brad Little announced changes among his staff today.

Lauren Smyser was hired as the new Director of Operations in the Office of the Governor. Smyser has been serving as Deputy General Counsel for the Governor and has led his regulatory reform efforts for nearly two years. As Director of Operations, she will advise the Governor on healthcare, workforce development, economic security, and insurance. She previously worked in private practice at a local law firm and specialized in healthcare law. Smyser holds a bachelor’s degree in history with minors in pre-law, religious studies, and human biology from The College of Idaho. She also earned her juris doctorate from the University of Idaho College of Law, graduating summa cum laude.

Governor Little also announced the departure of his Deputy Chief of Staff, Sara Stover, who left the office to work in the private sector.

“Sara Stover is deeply respected for her extensive knowledge on healthcare policy in Idaho, and she has been a valuable member of our team for many years. Her steady leadership and strong commitment to serving Idahoans have made a lasting impact on this office and our state,” Governor Little said. “While we miss her greatly, I am excited to welcome Lauren Smyser into her new role. Lauren has already proven herself as a trusted advisor and effective leader, and her deep understanding of policy, operations, and state government will help ensure we continue delivering results for the people of Idaho.”

Niko Lostra was hired as a Policy Advisor in the Office of the Governor. He will cover policy areas related to the environment and transportation. Prior to joining the Governor’s Office, Lostra spent more than six years with Boise-based firm Bilbao & Co., representing clients on state and local policy matters. A lifelong Idahoan, Lostra brings extensive experience in public policy and stakeholder engagement, along with a strong appreciation for developing solutions that benefit Idaho.

Lostra replaces Darren Damon who is taking over as Regulatory and Legislative Affairs Bureau Chief in the Governor’s budget office, the Division of Financial Management, a role previously held by Smyser. Damon previously worked in journalism and public affairs before joining the Governor’s Office in 2023. He has a bachelor’s degree in broadcast and digital media from the University of Idaho.

“I want to thank Darren Damon for his outstanding service in the Governor’s Office. Darren has been a trusted advisor on complex policy and regulatory issues, and his leadership has helped advance important priorities for Idaho. I am grateful he will continue serving our state in his new role as we continue to streamline government and cut red tape,” Governor Little said. “Niko Lostra brings a strong understanding of public policy, strategic communications, and the issues that matter to Idaho families and businesses. I am pleased to welcome him to our team and look forward to his work advancing priorities in transportation, natural resources, permitting, and infrastructure.
