H668: No Public Funds for Gender Transition

Friday, 3/15/24:

The new RS was printed as H668 and passed the House on a party line vote. It passed Senate State Affairs earlier this week and will be on the Senate floor shortly.

Tuesday, 2/27/24:

Rep. Young introduced a replacement bill, RS 31528, in House State Affairs this morning. She said that she found a cleaner way to draft language barring both adults and children from using public funds for gender transition. The committee approved the bill and it will be printed soon.

Wednesday, 2/21/24:

Rep. Julianne Young presented H520 to the House Judiciary & Rules Committee this afternoon. There was a lot of debate and testimony on both sides. Newly-appointed Rep. Todd Achilles vehemently disagreed with the bill, and he, Rep. Chris Mathias, and Rep. Dan Garner voted against sending it to the floor. However, the motion passed, and H520 will be on the House floor shortly.

Tuesday, 2/13/24:

This bill was reported out from House Judiciary & Rules last Wednesday in a bundle with several other bills, so it was not formally introduced by the sponsor yet. This would build on last year’s H71 which banned gender mutilating drugs and surgeries for minors by prohibiting any public funds in Idaho to be used for gender transition procedures.

It was printed as H520 and awaits a hearing.
