Department of Finance
Department of State
The Department of Finance has regulated Idaho's financial industries since 1905, when it oversaw a single industry—banking, then 78 state banks holding a combined $14 million in assets. Today the department licenses and regulates fifteen industries and more than 195,000 entities through three bureaus—Financial Institutions, Consumer Finance, and Securities—with the banking sector alone now holding over $29.5 billion in assets. The department is funded entirely by the industries it regulates rather than by tax dollars.
