Exposing What Proposition 1 Really Means for Idaho
New ad reveal’s Prop 1’s fine print to prove how extreme it really is
BOISE, Idaho — Today, Stop Prop 1 released its first ad, “Not What It Seems,” warning Idaho voters that Proposition 1 is far more extreme than its proponents pretend. This 2-minute video walks viewers through Prop 1’s ballot title and reveals the deceptions hidden in the fine print of the initiative.
“Prop 1 sponsors are soft pedaling, but voters deserve the hard truth,” said Dee Sarton. “By vaguely redefining terms voters are already familiar with, Prop 1 was cleverly written to conceal extreme abortion policies, including abortions after the unborn baby can feel pain. We have seen it in other states where vague ballot language ushered in nearly unlimited abortion. Whether you’re pro-life or pro-choice, Prop 1 is too extreme.”
What Prop 1 Would Do
“Not What It Seems” explains how:
- Prop 1 redefines “fetal viability” to allow late-term abortions, for any reason, as late as the eighth month of pregnancy, well past the point when a baby can feel pain.
- Prop 1’s “right to privacy” applies to “every person,” allowing abortions for girls without a parent’s knowledge or consent — making abortion the only procedure that can be performed on a minor without a parent’s consent.
- Prop 1 would allow any so-called “healthcare provider,” not just doctors, to perform abortions, eliminating an important patient safety requirement.
- Prop 1’s “healthcare provider liability protections” grants professional and civil immunity to anyone involved in facilitating or performing an abortion.
- Prop 1 may sound reasonable — until you read the fine print. In reality, it goes much further than Roe v. Wade, and is far more extreme than at first it seems.
