By Lt. Governor Scott Bedke
The 2026 Legislative Session is officially underway.
Lawmakers have returned to work with a clear focus on Idaho’s future and the responsibilities we carry on behalf of the people we serve.
I remain closely aligned with Governor Little’s Enduring Idaho plan as we work to keep Idaho on a strong path. Responsible budgeting, public safety, public education, and policies that support families and businesses will guide my work this session.

LAUNCHing the Idaho worker

Preparing our children for the future is one of my top focuses. That means strengthening workforce readiness, supporting career and technical education, and ensuring students have real opportunities after graduation. Idaho LAUNCH is a key part of that effort, connecting students to in-demand careers and practical training. Protecting this investment means investing directly in Idaho’s workforce and long-term economic strength.
Other Top Priorities
Public safety will also remain front and center. Idaho’s law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day and they deserve strong support from state leadership. I will continue to back policies that protect victims, hold criminals accountable and keep our communities safe. A safe Idaho is the foundation for a strong Idaho.
As co-chair for the Idaho Advanced Nuclear Energy Task Force, I am continuing to work to position Idaho as a leader in reliable, innovative energy that supports growth and national security.

Agriculture is the backbone of Idaho’s economy.

This week, the state celebrated Idaho Ag Day. Bringing producers to the statehouse and giving legislators the opportunity to better understand this important industry. While this day marked the official Idaho Ag Day, every day in Idaho is Ag Day. This important industry deserves our support.
I sat down with the press to highlight some of the needs for the agriculture sector. Protecting our $30 million water infrastructure investment is critical. I worked closely with legislators last year to get this across the finish line, and will work to ensure this investment is made again this year.
There is a lot of work ahead, but I am optimistic about what we can accomplish this session. With thoughtful leadership and a commitment to Idaho values, we can continue building a strong future for our state.
