It’s been an intense three months of 2024. The legislative session should conclude next week just as the primary election is revving up. Today, between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, we can stop to breathe.
The world of politics can be stressful, not only because of constant activity, but because of the personal cost. Enemies attack you. Friends betray you. Projects on which you’ve spent blood, sweat, and tears fail anticlimactically. It can be demoralizing, but I hope you all keep your heads up. We are happy warriors, fighting the good fight without losing our souls. After all, the message of Easter is that there is always hope.
Make sure you’re checking out the Primary Pulse at the Gem State Chronicle. I am adding more endorsements and information as I find them. This should prove to be a valuable resource for voters, candidates, and political organizations.
On Thursday I wrote a short story explaining how former Boise council member Lisa Sanchez exposed the hypocrisy and insecurity of Sen. Treg Bernt. Check it out here.
In case you missed it, I joined the Idaho Signal program last week to look back on the session that was:
I also joined Greg Pruett and Dustin Hurst on Freedom Bros where we talked with legislative candidates Bryan Scholz and Spencer Hutchings:
The Lotus Eaters recently posted a discussion about the life of Idaho’s own Randy Weaver, whose wife and son were shot by federal agents more than thirty years ago. It’s a reminder that even back then the system tended to persecute those who attempted to live outside of it.
The whole program is available for subscribers to the Lotus Eaters, but here is a clip. Their base subscription is only £5 per month, which is a fantastic deal.
Speaking of the lads at the Lotus Eaters, they looked at the reforms of Nayib Bukele, president of El Salvador, and the reaction of the liberal world order to this leader who dared put bad guys in jail to protect his people:
Last week, documentary filmmaker Lauren Southern posted a video explaining why she’s had to distance herself from her friends Martin and Brittany Sellner. Martin is an Austrian nationalist whose views have gotten him in trouble throughout the world (he was just arrested in Switzerland recently while giving a speech calling for deportations of illegal migrants) while Brittany has ties to Idaho, which gives this story a local angle.
Whatever you think of the Sellners’ views — whether you agree, disagree, or find them beyond the pale — there’s something wrong with a country in which people can be detained by federal agents because of who they’re friends with or who they’ve spoken to. That sounds like something you’d expect to happen in the old USSR or in Communist China, not the United States of America. Watch Southern’s video and decide for yourself:
The departure of Candace Owens from the Daily Wire has stirred up a lot of discussion online about free speech and where conservatives should draw the line regarding expressions of Christianity that are considered by some to be anti-Semitic. Auron MacIntyre, as usual, laid out the issues in a comprehensive and balanced manner:
Finally, a reminder to shut everything down and simply relax from time to time:
Enjoy the silence, have a great Easter Sunday with your families, and I’ll see you in the arena.
