The Department of Correction manages Idaho's state prison system and supervises adults on probation and parole, serving roughly 24,000 individuals statewide—about 8,000 incarcerated and 16,000 under community supervision at any given time. The department operates nine state-owned correctional facilities, including the Idaho Maximum Security Institution and Idaho State Correctional Center, alongside seven probation and parole district offices.
