Boise County Commissioner Candidate Dylan Stocker Disputes Road Rage Accusations

Disclosure: The author consults with the Idaho GOP and works with Chairwoman Dorothy Moon.

On the evening of Thursday, April 16, 2026, candidates for Boise County attended a forum organized by local citizens. What exactly transpired that evening is under dispute. Steve and Jean Moore—who both serve as officers of the Boise County GOP (Jean as chair, Steve as state committeeman)—attended in their capacity as private citizens. They distributed a flier containing a written statement from Idaho GOP Chairwoman Dorothy Moon alleging that one of the county commissioner candidates, Dylan Stocker, was involved in an incident on a Boise County highway in 2022. The statement is transcribed here in full:

In July 2022, Dylan Stocker, while driving a silver GMC truck on Highway 21 near mile marker 92, engaged in a disturbing road rage incident that endangered another driver, who was none other than Dorothy Moon. According to her formal complaint to Sheriff Scott Turner, Stocker pulled out unsafely from a dirt road, forced her to swerve to avoid a collision, then aggressively tailgated her, made erratic passes while gesturing wildly, and even stopped his truck straddling the double yellow lines on a highway bridge for an extended period—leaving her fearing he might confront or harm her.

Voters in Boise County should think carefully before placing someone with this history in elected office as county commissioner. We don’t need a hothead making decisions on public safety, roads, and emergency services. What if the other driver had been a young or inexperienced motorist who lacked the composure to de-escalate and avoid a potential crash? This behavior shows a lack of self-control and poor judgment on public roadways, where lives are literally at stake. A responsible citizen—and especially a candidate for local leadership—must demonstrate better temperament and accountability, not intentional intimidation.

According to a statement provided to the Chronicle by Steve Moore, Stocker decried the flier during Q&A:

During Mr. Stocker’s presentation he was questioned by another participant asking the question about the distributed statement from Dorothy. Mr. Stocker started ranting and getting very angry. My wife and I sat through many minutes of statements by Mr. Stocker while being called dirty corrupt people and the Central Committee corrupt and dirty.  Also Dorothy Moon was called corrupt and dirty by Mr. Stocker.  During that rant, Mr. Stocker admitted to pulling out in front of an unknown driver because he felt the driver was going too fast through that area.

Dylan Stocker disputes Moon and Moore’s characterizations, and joined Kevin Miller the next day to discuss the issue. According to him, the flier was an attempt by Chairwoman Moon to derail his campaign—either out of a personal grudge or frustration that the Idaho GOP was falling apart like a “house of cards”. I recorded the show so you can listen for yourself:

In the interview, Stocker described the flier as an “October surprise”:

By the way, this is my first public event. So here’s the compliment to me. Dorothy Moon must really not like me because I’ve been publicly criticizing her for many things. I have a radio voice. I’m interviewing people that are against the establishment. I’m talking openly. This isn’t Dorothy Moon’s first instance of trying to trash people miraculously four weeks before an election like it’s some kind of October surprise.

The Chronicle reached out to Stocker for his side of the story. His only reply was “No comment,” but he included a response from the Idaho State Police (ISP) indicating that no record of the incident exists in its files. However, the same document notes that an ISP trooper contacted both drivers after receiving information from the Boise County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), though no formal report was filed.

Stocker said in the interview that “not one single sheriff or sheriff deputy had contacted” him. The ISP response, however, indicates that a state trooper—not a sheriff’s deputy—contacted both drivers.

Records provided by Chairwoman Moon corroborate that the BCSO was notified of an incident in July 2022. Below is a copy of memos written by Boise County Sheriff Scott Turner following Moon’s police report:

Moon provided the Chronicle a screenshot of a series of text messages between herself and Sheriff Turner beginning on the afternoon of July 12, 2022, when the incident is alleged to have occurred:

Finally, here is the formal statement sent by Moon to Sheriff Turner later that summer, explaining her recollection of events:

Taken together, records indicate that something occurred on State Highway 21 around noon on July 12, 2022. Then-Rep. Dorothy Moon reported the incident and provided the vehicle’s license plate number to the Boise County Sheriff’s Office, which identified the vehicle as registered to Dylan Stocker. BCSO, coordinating with ISP, investigated, but no charges were filed. The incident resurfaced this month in the context of Stocker’s campaign for Boise County Commissioner, at which point he denounced it as “corrupt and dirty” politics.

The details of the incident itself remain disputed. However, Idaho court records show nearly two dozen traffic-related incidents associated with Dylan Stocker:

Records show twenty infractions spanning Blaine, Madison, Bonneville, Lincoln, Ada, and Boise counties. The first dates to June 1993, when Stocker was cited for possessing beer as a minor. The most serious charge appears to be a misdemeanor reckless driving case in January 2002, which included a note that Stocker either failed or refused a blood alcohol test. Court records from the same period also show a driver’s license suspension hearing, which is an administrative proceeding that typically follows a failed or refused BAC test. Stocker was sentenced to community service, unsupervised probation, and a $269.50 fine for the reckless driving charge.

Other citations include several instances of speeding, failure to stop, failure to provide insurance information, failure to use turn signals, failure to use proper child restraints, and passing while crossing a double yellow line. The latter is the most recent citation on record, occurring in August 2025.

None of this proves what occurred in the alleged 2022 incident. However, it provides additional context regarding Stocker’s driving history. He maintains that the matter is a politically motivated attack, pointing to the lack of charges or a formal ISP report as evidence that Moon’s claim lacks substance.

Dylan Stocker hosts a radio show called The Great Idaho Show and has been active on social media since joining X one year ago. While he often urges people to rise above petty infighting and personal conflict, his own feed reflects many such exchanges. He has been vocal in his disagreements not only with Chairwoman Moon, but also with Gov. Brad Little, Speaker Mike Moyle, and numerous other political figures.

In his interview on KIDO, Stocker suggested that Sheriff Turner might have ulterior motives, stating that he and others “aren’t exactly clean in all of this.” On X, he acknowledged his history of traffic infractions but maintained that the controversy was about a personal vendetta by Chairwoman Moon.

I do not live in Boise County and have no direct stake in this race. The purpose of this article is neither to attack nor defend anyone, but to present as much information as possible so that readers can make up their own minds. Ultimately, it is up to voters in Boise County to decide what to do with these facts.
