Sandpoint, Idaho — State Representative Cornel Rasor announced today that he will seek re-election to the Idaho House of Representatives, District 1B, in the Republican primary on May 19, 2026.
Rasor, a North Idaho resident, grew up on his family’s cattle ranch in Bonner County and graduated from Sandpoint High School. He and his wife, Kim, have been married for 49 years and have three children and 16 grandchildren.
Cornel has been active in politics for over 30 years. He served four years as a County Commissioner and currently serves as chairman of the Bonner County Natural Resources Committee while also serving as a Precinct Committeeman. In the past, he has volunteered for the Sandpoint Life Choices Center. Rasor has worked with state legislators on bills and research. He provides coordination training for officials, and offers Robert’s Rules training for multiple groups. He is often asked to speak or train at regional events on the Second Amendment, reclamation of state lands, and parliamentary procedure.
Cornel currently serves as State Representative for Idaho House District 1B. In 2025, he sponsored Senate Bill 1021, which amended provisions to strengthen protections in child welfare cases. In 2026, Rasor introduced a new privacy bill, which protects women, girls and families across Idaho from spaces being invaded. The bill has been assigned to the House State Affairs Committee and is moving forward to a full hearing.
Rasor, a longtime small business owner, said, “The 2026 session has been one of the best I have seen.” He described the session as “encouraging and effective,” noting that legislators from every corner of the state are working together on issues such as public safety, education, and keeping Idaho’s budget in check. “This is the kind of Legislature North Idaho deserves. I am running again because I want to help keep that momentum going and keep North Idaho’s voice strong in Boise.”
