WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho) celebrated President Donald Trump signing his Break Up Suspicious Transactions (BUST) Fentanyl Act into law as part of the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act. Senator Risch’s bill will crack down on the import of deadly fentanyl and its precursors flowing from China to Mexico and across our borders.
“Too many Idahoans have lost their lives to illicit fentanyl flowing into the U.S. from China and through our border with Mexico,” said Risch. “With my BUST Fentanyl Act signed into law, the U.S. can make the criminals in China think twice before importing these deadly drugs into our communities.”
The BUST Fentanyl Act will:
- Allow the U.S. to target Chinese government-owned or controlled entities being used to finance foreign opioid trafficking;
- Expand the list of methamphetamine chemicals tracked in the annual International Narcotics Control Strategy Report (INCSR); and
- Encourage the Trump administration:
- Identify individuals and entities from China involved in the shipment of precursor chemicals and equipment to manufacture counterfeit pills;
- Target Chinese financial institutions that enable money laundering; and
- Report on the establishment of U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency offices in China.
