NEWSLETTER: The Simpson Standard: December 21st, 2025

By Congressman Mike Simpson

Dear Friend,

It was a productive week here in DC. The House took up and passed several important bills, one of which was legislation that offers common-sense, market-based reforms to lower health care premium costs, expand access to quality care, provide every American with more options and flexibility to choose coverage that works for them, and bring greater transparency to America’s health care system.

I was also grateful for the great meetings I had earlier this week. I met with Idaho Farm Bureau’s new president, Matt Dorsey, and with Stacy Chapin, Ethan Chapin’s mother, to discuss new forensic DNA testing methods. You can read more about these meetings below.

Lastly, this will be my last e-newsletter of 2025. As we enter the holidays, Kathy and I wish all of you a Merry Christmas, a safe holiday season, and a Happy New Year!

Lowering Health Care Premiums

Both Republicans and Democrats are serious about lowering the cost of health care. While we may have different ideas on how to fix the problem, the reality is that throwing more money at it through the Unaffordable Care Act has destroyed our nation’s health care system.

The problems Republicans warned about the Unaffordable Care Act more than ten years ago are now happening:

❌Increased fraud
❌Inflated costs
❌Reduced private coverage
❌Fewer options for Americans

… all while health insurers collect big checks from Washington. That’s shameful.

The Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act provides much-needed reform to lower health care costs for all Americans, not just those benefiting from the Biden COVID bonuses. This bill is a step in the right direction to fix our broken health care system. You can read more about this bill and its provisions here.

Supporting Idaho Agriculture

Idahoans understand the vital role agriculture plays in our communities. As your proud representative, I will always fight for Idaho ag.

I look forward to continuing to work with Idaho Farm Bureau’s new president, Matt Dorsey, and the Idaho Farm Bureau, and fighting for policies that cut regulations, protect Idaho’s water, and support our producers.

Genetic Genealogy Meeting

Sophisticated technologies, such as Forensic Genetic Genealogy, offer new DNA testing methods to solve cold cases and support law enforcement investigations. This kind of genetic genealogy identified the monster charged in the University of Idaho murders.

I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about this technology and to meet with Stacy Chapin, whose son, Ethan Chapin, was taken from us far too soon.
