WASHINGTON—Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson cosponsored the Make America’s Youth Healthy Again Act – a bill that codifies one of President Trump’s executive orders reestablishing the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, and Reestablishing the Presidential Fitness Test. This legislation is led by Congressman Greg Murphy (R-NC).
“Study after study has shown that obesity, chronic health conditions, and depression rates have skyrocketed in America’s youth over the last decade. Revitalizing the Presidential Fitness Test in schools should not be a political issue, as it is a step in the right direction to combat these concerning statistics. I applaud President Trump and Secretary Kennedy’s efforts to Make America Healthy Again in the classroom and beyond, which is why I am proud to codify this critical executive order,” said Rep. Simpson, an original cosponsor.
The Presidential Fitness Test began in 1966 but ended during the Obama administration. President Trump’s Executive Order reestablishes the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition to develop bold and innovative fitness goals for young Americans
with the aim of fostering a new generation of healthy, active citizens. It further directs the Council to create school-based programs that reward excellence in physical education and develop criteria for a Presidential Fitness Award. The Order also reestablishes
the Presidential Fitness Test, which shall be administered by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
