WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo (both R-Idaho) voted in support of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), fulfilling Congress’s constitutional duty to “provide for the common defense.”

The FY 2026 NDAA strengthens America’s military capabilities, bolsters national security, and includes key provisions important to the state of Idaho. The legislation supports our troops and their families through well-deserved pay increases.

“This year’s NDAA ensures our military remains mission-ready, can protect and defend our nation, and provides servicemembers with a well-deserved pay raise – if only Democrats would end this government shutdown,” said Risch. “This legislation prioritizes recruitment of the best candidates to defend America, keep the border secure, and strengthen our national security.”

“The most critical component of the annual NDAA is ensuring our military is prepared to face off against and mitigate threats from our adversaries both at home and abroad,” said Crapo. “The Senate’s passage of this important legislation puts us one step closer to providing for the common defense.”

Senators Risch and Crapo secured several critical provisions for the state of Idaho in the NDAA that will:

  • Enhance U.S. nuclear energy leadership globally and combat China and Russia’s growing influence on international nuclear energy development;
  • Crack down on the import of deadly fentanyl and its precursors flowing from China to Mexico and across our borders;
  • Support the Idaho National Laboratory for tristructural isotropic (TRISO) fuel development;
  • Strengthen the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States’ (CFIUS) ability to review foreign land purchases near sensitive military, intelligence and national laboratory sites;
  • Reduce regulatory barriers to new and affordable housing; and
  • Improves the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund to enhance transparency and performance.

The FY 2026 NDAA also:

  • Provides a 3.8% pay raise for servicemembers;
  • Supports the development of the Golden Dome missile defense system;
  • Authorizes investments to boost our naval fleet;
  • Removes diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) provisions;
  • Prohibits men from playing in women’s sports at military service academies;
  • Repeals or amends more than 100 burdensome and outdated provisions to streamline Pentagon innovation;
  • Restore munitions and readiness for all military services; and
  • Expand and improve military recruitment.
