By Congressman Mike Simpson

Dear Friend,

I’m sure you have heard the news out of Washington, DC this week. It’s an unfortunate reality that Democrats caused. Make no mistake, this is the Schumer Shutdown and Democrats OWN THIS. Why are they voting against a continuing resolution that they previously supported 13 TIMES under the Biden administration? Check out the facts here.

I’ve always said that government shutdowns are bad politics and policy, but my colleagues from across the aisle pushed us into a government shutdown due to their far-left policy ideas. For example, Congressional Democrats presented beyond unreasonable policy demands to President Trump, which could give free health care to illegal aliens paid by American taxpayers, strip rural hospital funding, and increase spending by nearly $1.5 trillion.

House Republicans did our job by passing a clean, short-term continuing resolution to keep the government open, protect veterans and seniors, and continue passing single-subject spending bills through our bipartisan appropriations process. This was a CLEAN CR – no riders or policy provisions, just a spending measure to keep the government funded and operational.

This is the Schumer Shutdown

Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats have shut down the government due to their far-left, unreasonable policy demands. These political games have very real consequences for Americans, especially throughout the West.

Whether it’s jeopardizing wildfire preparedness, the partial or total closure of our public lands and national parks, or preventing the issuance of permits for continued economic growth and development, the American people should never pay the price for government dysfunction.
