Moscow, IDAHO – August 11, 2024 – Colton Bennett (Troy, Idaho) has announced that he is seeking a rematch against Rep. Lori McCann for the Republican party nomination for State Representative, District 6A.
Bennett has called to deliver a permanent property tax cut to Idahoans by lowering the rate of taxation increase set by the legislature and requiring efficiency with public funds from municipalities and taxing districts. “With the rising cost of rent, young people being priced out of home ownership, and property owners paying painfully high sums just to keep a roof over their head, now is the time to identify and eliminate government waste,” Bennett declared.
Bennett also says his campaign plans to bring attention to conservative values that have been neglected during Rep. McCann’s tenure, issues like illegal immigration, abortion, and puberty blockers for minors.
“My opponent has taken a number of positions which are contrary to what conservatives stand for, from expressing support for sex change drugs for kids, to co-writing legislation to expand abortions, to voting to continue giving welfare to illegal immigrants, I believe Rep. McCann is out of touch with Idaho values.”
Bennett plans to fight to preserve Idaho’s hydroelectric energy sector from those seeking to tear down dams in both Washington and Idaho. “Idaho is leading the nation in clean energy production, with 60% of our power coming from hydroelectric,” Bennett said. “Sadly, a number of extremists, including the Oregon State Government, are engaged in a legal battle to tear down dams on the Snake River to accommodate salmon spawning. If the radicals are successful, they will come for Idaho’s dams next. This will cost jobs, drain water reserves, drive Idaho toward foreign energy dependence, and potentially double the electric bills for our homes.”
Colton Bennett and his wife, Sydney, live in Troy, Idaho. They have one daughter (Hadassah) and are expecting their second daughter in September. Bennett has an Associate’s Degree in Health Sciences. He served six years in the US Army as a combat medic and deployed overseas. He currently works as a Medical Assistant at Gritman.
