FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 30, 2025
The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance (ISAA) is calling on the Idaho Legislature to eliminate gun-free school zones and restore the right of school staff to protect themselves and their students.
In 2024, lawmakers had the opportunity to pass HB 415, a bill that would have curbed school boards’ authority to disarm teachers and administrators. Despite broad grassroots support, the Republican-led legislature failed to advance the bill — leaving Idaho schools vulnerable and defenseless.
Teachers and staff who already carry their firearms in public places like grocery stores, gas stations, shopping malls, and other locations, should be able to defend themselves in schools. Criminals know that a school with armed staff is not a place they want to target.
In the wake of the recent tragedy in Minnesota, some are renewing calls for gun control. ISAA stands firmly against these efforts. History has shown that gun-free zones do not stop violence — they invite it. Schools should never be soft targets.
“Criminals don’t follow laws. Disarming law-abiding citizens only empowers those who seek to do harm,” said ISAA President Greg Pruett. “It’s time Idaho leads the way in protecting our most vulnerable.”
ISAA will continue to oppose all gun control measures, no matter who proposes them, and fight for the rights of Idahoans to defend themselves — wherever they are.
