OPINION: The Simpson Standard: May 4th, 2025

By Congressman Mike Simpson

Dear Friend,

First and foremost, May is Military Appreciation Month. Our servicemembers and their families have sacrificed so much for our nation. I encourage everyone to take time this month to honor those who have served—and those who continue to serve—this great country. God bless our armed forces.

Congress is back! My House Republican colleagues and I are continuing our work in Washington after a productive district work period. It was a busy week here in DC, where we passed key legislation that eliminates excessive federal overreach that burdens hardworking Americans and ensures consumers have access to vehicles that best fit their needs.

Throughout my time in Congress, I have fought for a more efficient and manageable court system in Idaho. I have advocated for Idaho to have a third federal judge for years. I am proud to announce that I recently cosponsored the Judicial Understaffing Delays Getting Emergencies Solved Act of 2025 (JUDGES Act). You can read more about this legislation below.

Promises made, promises kept. This represents the first 100 days of President Trump’s leadership in the White House. In just 100 days, President Trump delivered the most secure border in American history, unleashed American energy, and brought American jobs back to our great nation. President Trump and his administration have done a phenomenal job of keeping their promises to the American people.

What’s Happening in Washington?

To name a few bills the House passed this week:

H.J.Res.87 – legislation that would reverse a rule from the EPA granting California waivers to mandate truck makers sell zero-emission trucks and increase vehicle prices for consumers.

H.J.Res.88 – legislation that would reverse a rule from the EPA granting California a waiver to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035.

H.J.Res.89 – legislation that would reverse a rule from the EPA granting California a waiver to implement nitrogen oxide engine emission standards, which create unworkable standards for heavy-duty on-road engines.

Adding a Third Federal Judge for Idaho

With Idaho’s growing population comes greater pressure on our courts and an increase in cases. Adding a third district judgeship will help reduce backlogs and ensure Idahoans receive timely justice. This solution will strengthen our judicial system and better serve the people of Idaho.

I have long advocated for this much-needed addition, and I look forward to seeing this critical legislation get across the finish line once and for all. Read more about this bill here.

President Trump’s First 100 Days

In the first 100 days of the Trump administration, President Trump has delivered promise after promise to make America safer, more prosperous, and stronger. From securing our southern border to reducing regulations and restoring government transparency, President Trump has followed through for the American people. I have remained optimistic since January 20th, and I am confident that the first 100 days are just the beginning of what the next four years will bring.
