STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
This legislation amends Idaho Code section 37-2732 regarding controlled substances. A mandatory minimum fine is added for first time convictions of marijuana possession of three (3) ounces, or less, of net weight. Minors are exempt from a minimum fine for misdemeanor possession.

1/22/25: The House took up H007 on Thursday, January 21. Rep. Skaug presented the bill on the floor. Several Republicans joined Democrats in opposition but it passed overwhelmingly.

1/16/25: Rep. Redman presented H007 in House Jud & Rules on Wednesday, January 15. The committee heard several hours of testimony, much in favor of medical marijuana. Fred Birnbaum of Idaho Freedom Foundation testified in favor of the bill. The committee voted 10-4 to send the bill to the floor with a “do pass” recommendation. Rep. Dan Garner joined the Democrats in voting no.
1/9/25: Rep. Skaug presented H007 in House Jud & Rules on Thursday, January 9. The committee voted to print the RS and it will be heard in full soon.
