BREAKING: House Postpones Budget Showdown

Coming into today’s session of the House of Representatives, the first of the maintenance budgets were on the 3rd reading calendar, which meant that a showdown over the budget was on the docket. However, the House immediately went at ease and the Republicans retreated into their back room to discuss the issue in private. (No word on if the room was smoke-filled.)

More than two hours later, the House came to order again and punted, postponing the entire 3rd reading calendar for at least one more day.

Also this morning, the Senate read the maintenance budgets for the second time, which means they will be on their 3rd reading calendar tomorrow as well. This budget fight is building to a climax. Who wants it more, fiscal conservatives or the big spending establishment?
