Governor
Brad Little has served as Idaho’s 33rd Governor since 2019. Before that, he was Lieutenant Governor and a member of the Idaho Senate. A native of Emmett, he earned a degree in agribusiness from the University of Idaho and worked in ranching, banking, and manufacturing. His administration has focused on regulatory reform, tax policy, and state funding for education and infrastructure. The duties of Idaho’s governor are extensive. The governor serves as the chief executive officer of the state government and commander-in-chief of the Idaho National Guard. He opens each legislative session with the State of the State Address, outlining his priorities, and holds the authority to veto bills passed by the Legislature. Additionally, the governor can convene the Legislature in special sessions when necessary and proposes a state budget at the start of each session. The governor appoints officers to state offices, boards, and commissions (subject to Senate approval) and fills legislative vacancies. He also has the authority to grant pardons, reprieves, and commutations for state-level crimes.
