OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

Brad Little
Governor

The duties of Idaho’s governor are extensive. The governor serves as the chief executive officer of the state government and commander-in-chief of the Idaho National Guard. He opens each legislative session with the State of the State Address, outlining his priorities, and holds the authority to veto bills passed by the Legislature. Additionally, the governor can convene the Legislature in special sessions when necessary and proposes a state budget at the start of each session. The governor appoints officers to state offices, boards, and commissions — subject to Senate approval — and fills legislative vacancies. He also has the authority to grant pardons, reprieves, and commutations for state-level crimes.
