OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL

The Idaho Attorney General is the state’s chief legal officer, responsible for providing legal advice and representation to state agencies, boards, and commissions. The Attorney General defends the state in legal matters, including lawsuits, and prosecutes certain criminal cases. Additionally, the office oversees consumer protection efforts, enforcing laws against fraud and deceptive practices. The Attorney General issues formal legal opinions on questions of law for state officials and agencies and plays a key role in upholding Idaho’s Constitution and statutes.

Raúl Labrador
Attorney General

Raúl R. Labrador is Idaho’s 33rd Attorney General, elected in 2022. He holds degrees from Brigham Young University and the University of Washington School of Law. Labrador has practiced immigration and criminal law and previously founded a law firm in Idaho. He served in the Idaho House from 2006 to 2010 and in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019, where he chaired a Judiciary subcommittee. A founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, Labrador has been recognized for his advocacy on constitutional, parental, and gun rights. He lives in Eagle with his wife and family.
