WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Congressman Russ Fulcher (Idaho-01) released the following statement after voting to advance H.R. 8469, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2027 (MilCon-VA).
“Having the backs of those who serve—and those who have served—our nation must always remain a national priority,” said Congressman Fulcher. “I have voted in favor of the MilCon-VA appropriations bill, the first appropriations bill to pass the House for Fiscal Year 2027. This legislation champions our Veterans and servicemembers by prioritizing improvements at VA Medical Facilities, fully reauthorizing Veterans’ healthcare programs and benefits, and strengthening military housing and childcare services for active-duty personnel and their families.”
Bill Background
- Fully funds Veterans’ health care programs and benefits
- Prioritizes improvements at VA Medical Facilities and four national cemeteries
- Protects the 2nd Amendment rights of Veterans, preventing the VA from sending information to the FBI about Veterans without a judge’s consent
- Supports the White House administration’s efforts to improve mental health and suicide prevention among Veterans
- Prohibits the VA from purchasing resources directly or indirectly from Communist China
