By Idaho GOP Chairwoman Dorothy Moon
With just over a month to go until Election Day, Idahoans are getting fired up to vote. Absentee ballots are already in the mail, early voting starts in just two weeks, and voters are preparing to decide the most important questions of the day.
Chief among those questions is whether or not Idaho will turn back the clock on abortion and once again allow the destruction of unborn babies. Proposition 1 would slash Idaho’s laws that protect the unborn as well as women and girls. It’s too extreme for Idaho, and I hope you will vote no!
You don’t have to take my word for it. Idaho Republicans are coming together on this issue like never before:
U.S. Senator Jim Risch:
“The most basic right we have is the right to life. I am strongly pro-life and always have been.”
Attorney General Raúl Labrador:
“I oppose Proposition 1 because it is too extreme. Idaho’s current law protects unborn life while recognizing reasonable exceptions for rape, incest, and circumstances in which an abortion is necessary to prevent the death of the mother.”
State Senator Tammy Nichols:
“The simplest way to say it is this: Prop 1 expands abortion in Idaho.”
State Senator Camille Blaylock:
“Join me in voting NO on November 3rd. My beliefs about life began long before I ever thought I would hold public office.”
State Representative Mike Pohanka:
“I believe Proposition 1 is too extreme for Idaho… If your child needs a parent’s permission to take a Tylenol at school, but no parent’s permission for an abortion, something is out of balance.”
State Representative Marco Erickson:
“Everybody should vote no on Prop 1. It goes way too far.”
State Representative Erin Bingham:
“I am pro-life, I believe in the sanctity of life. Prop 1 is seeking to expand abortion in the state of Idaho and I’m not in favor of that.”
State Representative Barbara Ehardt:
“I hope that you will join me in opposing Prop 1 too. Do not listen to the lies of deception!”
State Senate candidate Scott Herndon:
“Voters deserve to know what Prop 1 actually does. It is a sweeping expansion of abortion written in deceptively broad language. Its key definitions are lifted from California’s law.”
State House candidate Jane Sauter:
“This is an extreme abortion initiative, masked with the label of ‘women’s healthcare’. Don’t be fooled, this is an outright attempt to make abortion legal in Idaho, and we must stand up against it!”
Idaho has always been a place where all life is valued, ever since our territorial legislature outlawed abortion in 1864. Roe v. Wade imposed the practice on our state, but the people’s representatives in the Legislature said no, we will protect life. Idaho Republicans are united against this attempt to bring California-style abortion laws to Idaho. Join us in voting no on Prop 1!
