Editor’s note: On Thursday, the Chronicle reported that Jeffrey Street, a candidate for district judge in Idaho’s Fourth Judicial District, signed the petition to place Proposition 1 on the ballot. Street’s campaign sent the following statement in response:
Idaho’s Constitution gives citizens the right to bring initiatives to the ballot, which opens months of public discussion before voters make their decision. My signature reflects respect for that democratic process, not a position on the measure’s outcome or a partisan belief.
Consistent with the Idaho Code of Judicial Conduct, I cannot comment on any measure appearing on a current or past ballot. I am running to be a judge, which means that whatever laws are passed, I will apply them as written rather than legislate from the bench, and I will ensure every person receives a fair, impartial day in court. That is my commitment, and that is my sole focus.
