Power and water are vital resources in the Gem State.
In a recent interview with The Ranch Podcast, I discussed my work in Washington, D.C., to meet growing energy demands and ensure Idaho’s water supply is secure.
As we deploy new technologies and bring manufacturing back to the United States, we know we will need more sources of clean, reliable, “always-on” energy.
I’ve long said that nuclear energy is the silver bullet to powering America’s future, and no state is doing more to strengthen our nuclear industry than Idaho.
The work being done at the Idaho National Laboratory to test, develop, and demonstrate the next generation of nuclear reactors is setting the pace for the rest of the nation. I’ve led several bills to advance these efforts and support another critical energy source for the Gem State—hydropower.
In Congress, I’ve led the defense against radical attempts to breach the lower Snake River dams, a vital source of energy for the region. However, water isn’t just important for generating electricity; it is the lifeblood of our agriculture and our quality of life.
Improving water storage is essential, and any opportunity to expand our water infrastructure must be led by Idahoans on the ground. I’ve emphasized this with the Trump administration and have introduced legislation to remove the federal red tape inhibiting local water projects.
There is much to be optimistic about as Idahoans, and I’m proud to lead the fight on these issues for the Gem State.
