WASHINGTON—Today, Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson released the following statement after voting to end the Schumer Shutdown.
“Senate Democrats, under Chuck Schumer’s direction, held critical benefits and the livelihoods of millions of American families hostage for several weeks. In the end, they accepted the very same bipartisan deal that had been on the table from the start, proving this avoidable shutdown was nothing more than a political stunt. I applaud the handful of Senate Democrats who finally stood up and recognized the damage their party was causing to American families. The blame lies entirely with the Democrats, and the American people know it. As we reopen the government, I look forward to returning to regular order by continuing bipartisan negotiations on single-subject spending bills through the appropriations process. I join Americans across the country who are relieved to see the Stupid Schumer Shutdown finally come to an end,” said Rep. Simpson.
