By Congressman Mike Simpson
Dear Friend,
From passing a resolution to ensure all Americans know that socialism has no place in America, and legislation that unleashes America’s energy dominance, to ensuring violent offenders remain off the streets, it was a busy week here in DC!
Farmers, ranchers, and landowners nationwide received great news earlier this week when the EPA released its new proposed definition of “waters of the United States”. I have said this for years – Obama and Biden weaponized this rule, and now the definition will strictly follow the Supreme Court’s Sackett decision to protect Americans who want clean water.
I am a proud cosponsor of one of the resolutions that passed the House earlier this week. H. Con. Res. 58 expresses the collective view of the House and formally condemns socialism and its historical consequences. You can read more about this resolution below.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST: Are you or do you know someone who is interested in a Capitol Hill internship? The spring 2026 application deadline is December 1st! Learn more here.
Applauding EPA’s WOTUS Announcement
I’ve fought against expansive WOTUS overreach since the beginning. This week’s WOTUS announcement will provide clarity and regulatory certainty for farmers, ranchers, small businesses, and landowners.
Thank you to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and the Trump administration for your leadership! It was an honor to be part of this important announcement. Read more here.

Unleashing American Energy
This week, the House passed commonsense bills to unleash America’s energy dominance. For example, House Republicans are reversing burdensome Biden-era regulations to increase and expand America’s energy production and infrastructure, lifting Biden’s restrictions on LNG to streamline the permitting process, and helping increase America’s refining capacity.
In addition to passing these bills, I was also thrilled to see Department of the Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on Capitol Hill this week! I appreciate his leadership advocating for rural America and look forward to continuing to fight for those priorities here in Congress. Secretary Burgum has played a key role in our nation returning to ENERGY INDEPENDENCE!

Denouncing the Horrors of Socialism
More than 100 million people worldwide have been killed because of the horrors of socialism. History has repeatedly shown us that socialism always fails. Now more than ever, with newly elected leaders like Zohran Mamdani in New York, it is crucial we remain vigilant against this failed ideology. America has always been the guiding light of freedom, and socialism is far from that founding principle.
I encourage those who describe themselves as ‘socialists’ to engage in conversation with the courageous individuals who have fled socialist regimes – they truly understand what this ideology entails. I am a proud cosponsor of this resolution, and I was pleased to see it pass the House.
Last Call for Spring Interns!
A Capitol Hill internship provides unsurpassed opportunities to gain experience by applying academic skills in a highly professional work environment.
We are looking for potential interns with a strong interest in our nation’s government who are willing to work hard and are ready for an exciting few months in DC. If you fit this profile, I encourage you to apply. We are lucky to have Anna, who started as an intern in our office last spring and now works full-time in DC!
