NEWSLETTER: Labrador Letter: Election Day

By Attorney General Raúl Labrador

Dear Friends,

Tomorrow is Election Day, and I hope you’ll take a few minutes to cast your ballot in your local elections.

We sometimes focus so much on national races that we forget how much local elections matter. The people who serve on school boards, city councils, and county commissions make decisions that directly affect our daily lives, neighborhoods, schools, and communities. These are the leaders we see at the grocery store and run into at church. They’re our neighbors, and they deserve our attention and our vote.

It’s worth remembering what a privilege we have. In most of the world, people don’t get to choose their leaders. They live under governments they didn’t elect and can’t remove. But here in America, we’ve been given something extraordinary: the right to have a voice in who governs us. That right didn’t come easy. It was fought for, defended, and passed down to us through generations of sacrifice. Exercising it is one way we honor that legacy.

A few weeks ago, I toured the Ada County Elections Office in Boise with County Clerk Trent Tripple and Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane. They walked me through the entire process and showed me the steps they’re taking to make our elections even more transparent to the public. I saw firsthand the care and professionalism that goes into protecting the integrity of every vote. It reminded me why we can have confidence in this process and why participating in it matters so much. I usually vote on Election Day, but seeing our system work well inspired me to early vote.

However you choose to vote, whether it was early or on Election Day tomorrow, just make sure you do. Your voice matters, especially in local races where the impact on our day to day lives is even greater. These elections shape the future of your community, and you have the opportunity to be part of that.

So tomorrow, take a few minutes and head to your polling place. Bring your family if you can. Show your kids what it looks like to be a citizen. Make your voice heard.

Idaho is strong because Idahoans show up. Thank you for being the kind of people who take this responsibility seriously.

Best regards,
