RISCH: President Trump and I Stand with Idaho Veterans

By Sen. Jim Risch

After more than two years of bureaucratic delays by the Biden administration, the Boise Veterans Home finally broke ground on its new skilled nursing care facility last week.

I am proud to have worked with President Trump and Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) Doug Collins to see that this critical project moved forward.

Under the Biden administration, red tape and political games brought this project to a screeching halt. I fought Biden’s VA at length, demanding they grant Idaho the necessary waiver to allow the Boise project to proceed. They refused.

Shortly following President Trump’s reelection, I met one-on-one with Secretary Collins to request a waiver. The Trump administration was in full support. Within weeks of Trump’s Inauguration, Idaho’s waiver was signed.

Our nation has a moral and legal obligation to care for our veterans. This new facility is a testament to that commitment, and I thank President Trump for his critical support.

We are removing the barriers limiting Idaho veterans’ care and ensuring these brave men and women receive the respect they rightfully deserve.
