In a Facebook post this afternoon, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) shared information regarding recent arrests related to illegal voting. The post notes that Idaho Code §18-2306 makes it a felony for anyone to commit election fraud or interfere with the voting process. This includes voting illegally or multiple times, altering ballots, adding fraudulent ballots, destroying or tampering with ballots or poll lists, obstructing election officials or voters, or interfering with voting machines or vote tally systems.
Referring to a March 2025 executive order from President Trump on voter fraud and a July 2024 order by Gov. Little ensuring that only U.S. citizens could vote, the ACSO stated that the Ada County Clerk’s Office audited the 2020 and 2024 elections. The audit led to 37 investigations referred to the sheriff’s office. Of those, eight suspects were arrested—seven of whom were felons whose voting rights had not been restored. The eighth was a non-citizen who, though legally present in the country, attempted to vote despite being ineligible.
The ACSO clarified that none of the investigations involved tampering with voting machines or attempts to alter election results.
Ada County Clerk Trent Tripple issued this statement:
Our mission in Ada County is to ensure that everyone eligible to vote can exercise their constitutional right in a safe and secure manner. We take voter eligibility very seriously, and our office is dedicated to tirelessly ensuring that only those eligible to vote have the opportunity to cast their ballot.
