By Sen. Jim Risch
America’s future depends on critical minerals, and Idaho is ready to lead.
Minerals like antimony, cobalt, molybdenum, tungsten, niobium, phosphate, gold, and silver are crucial for our economy, military, and technological advancement. The Gem State is home to each of these minerals and many more.
For decades, excessive regulations have hamstrung efforts to access these minerals, forcing the U.S. to rely on foreign nations for the resources available in our own backyard.
President Donald Trump’s recent executive order to increase American mineral production is cutting through the red tape. Now, two Idaho mining projects are on the President’s priority list.
The Stibnite Gold and Caldwell Canyon Mine projects will unlock minerals essential for our national defense, food security, and energy independence.
Just last month, the Stibnite Gold Project received its final federal permit—making it one step closer to tapping the largest antimony reserve not under Communist China’s control.
China also dominates global exports of phosphate—an essential mineral for agriculture products. The Caldwell Canyon Mine Project would provide a 40-year supply of this critical resource, safeguarding American farmers and ranchers from foreign market manipulation.
These aren’t just Idaho victories, they’re national milestones in the fight for American self-reliance.
Every day we delay in establishing a strong domestic supply of critical minerals is another day we remain at the mercy of countries that do not share our values or interests.
Fortunately, President Trump has made our energy and national security a priority.
As your Senator, I am lockstep in his mission to restore American dominance in critical mineral production. We are putting America first, and Idaho is leading the charge.
