OPINION: Cutting Red Tape, Restoring Freedom

By Sen. Jim Risch

Idahoans are fed up with the D.C. bureaucracy—and they have every right to be.

Small businesses, ranches, farms, and families are buried by overreaching federal regulations and D.C.’s extreme spending. Enough is enough.

It’s time we get government out of the way and let Idahoans get back to work without federal bureaucrats breathing down their necks. This starts with serious regulatory reform.

My bill, the Zero-Based Regulations Act, will achieve this by cutting the costly, ineffective, and outdated regulations stifling our freedoms. It keeps federal agencies in check, forcing them to justify rules they want to keep and eliminate the rest.

My bill is modeled after Idaho’s reform efforts, which earned the state recognition as the least regulated in the country for the last six years.

In fact, the Gem State is consistently ranked one of the best places to live, work, and raise a family.

It’s common sense. When you cut government mandates, investments surge, jobs grow, and Americans prosper.

I’m proud to lead the fight with Senate Republicans and the Trump administration against the D.C. bloated bureaucracy. We are cutting red tape, reining in wasteful spending, and championing the cause of freedom.

Idahoans deserve nothing less.
