EDITORIAL: The Simpson Standard: April 27th, 2025

By Congressman Mike Simpson

Dear Friend,

It was another great week in Idaho’s Second District! I was honored to be a keynote speaker for the Energy Communities Alliance’s New Nuclear forum. We had a great conversation about moving nuclear projects forward.

Also, this week, I had the opportunity to visit the Idaho National Laboratory with my friend and colleague, Rep. Celeste Maloy. She serves with me on the House Appropriations Committee as my Vice Chair of the Interior and Environment Subcommittee. We also serve together on the Energy and Water Subcommittee, which is critical for labs like the Idaho National Laboratory.

Idaho’s abundance of parks, forests, and public lands makes our state a wonderful place to live, work, and play. Public lands were set aside for public use, and we have a responsibility to ensure that future generations can enjoy the same benefits we sometimes take for granted today. I am pleased to cosponsor the Public Lands in Public Hands Act, a bill that would maintain public access to public land by banning the sale or transfer of most public lands by the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Forest Service. You can read more about this bill below.

Delivering Remarks at the Energy Communities Alliance Forum

I was honored to deliver remarks at the Energy Communities Alliance Forum in Idaho Falls this week.

Supporting American energy dominance means supporting American nuclear energy. This is an exciting time for the future of nuclear energy, and I’m proud to support INL’s efforts, which play a key role in our nation’s energy future.

Energy Security is National Security

It was great to see my colleague, Rep. Celeste Maloy, at the Idaho National Laboratory earlier this week!

As a long-time supporter of the Lab, I always enjoy showing colleagues the incredible progress being made here. INL is a world leader in nuclear energy research and is home to remarkable advancements in nuclear reactors. As Idahoans, we can be proud of the important work being done at INL to enhance our national and energy security.

Public Lands in Public Hands Act

As a lifelong Idahoan and Chairman of the Interior and Environment Subcommittee on the House Appropriations Committee, I’ve worked to protect Idahoans’ way of life by preserving access to our public lands.

I am proud to cosponsor Rep. Zinke’s Public Lands in Public Hands Act, which ensures future generations can enjoy the same benefits we do today. You can read more about this legislation here and listen to my thoughts on this issue here.
