NEWS: Idaho Freedom Caucus gains 4, loses 1

Last Friday afternoon, the Idaho Freedom Caucus announced that four freshman legislators have joined the group as public members. Reps. Rob Beiswenger, Kyle Harris, Cornel Rasor, and Steve Tanner have joined the group, which according to its website “is a dedicated group of state legislators committed to safeguarding the freedoms and liberty of Idahoans.”

Beiswenger and Tanner each defeated a moderate Republican incumbent, while Harris and Rasor won election to open seats following contested primaries.

This morning, Sen. Brian Lenney announced his departure from the Caucus on X:

Given the limited time we have on this planet, I’m convinced it’s crucial to cut out distractions and reclaim time wherever possible. That’s why I’m stepping away from the Idaho Freedom Caucus, effective immediately.

I want to make it clear that my decision isn’t due to any wrongdoing or bad blood between members, etc.

The Idaho Freedom Caucus has consistently championed the advancement of conservative values, which I hold in high regard and I’ll continue to work with them to promote these ideals in Idaho.

Lenney had been previously elected the vice chair of the Caucus following its disaffiliation from the State Freedom Caucus Network. The two groups are currently disputing the Freedom Caucus brand and logo.

Ten lawmakers in the 68th Idaho Legislature currently identify as public members of the Idaho Freedom Caucus.
