Self-Governing Agency
The Idaho Commission for Libraries assists Idaho's public, school, and academic libraries in building the capacity to better serve their communities. Founded in 1901 as the State Library and renamed in 2006, the Commission provides library development support, digital resources, literacy and youth reading programs, and grant funding to more than 850 libraries statewide. It is governed by the Board of Library Commissioners, which sets policy and appoints the State Librarian—currently Dylan Baker, appointed in 2025.
